GALACTO-OLIGOSACCHARIDE (GOS) are oligosaccharides formed by β-galactosidase transgalactosylation. GOS is an indigestible food component that can pass through the upper gastrointestinal tract relatively intact and ferment in the colon to produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that further regulate the body’s intestinal flora. - United States: GRAS approved by the FDA.

- Europe: Allowed to be used as a food ingredient in infant formulas at an added level of up to 0.8g/100mL. 

- Australia & New Zealand: Permitted for use in infant formula at a maximum level of 0.8g/100mL.

- China: Approved as a new resource food and can be added to infant food and dairy products at a consumption level of no more than 15g/day .
